STUDENTS RECEIVE BUSINESS ADVICE
Business students at Canterbury Christ Church University have been hearing how the city council can help start-up businesses in the district.
The council's Local Economy Manager Dawn Hudd recently gave presentations to 'entrepreneurship' students at the university. Feedback from lecturers revealed the sessions were popular and that students gained a great deal.
Among the services offered by the council for start-ups include:
- An on-line commercial property portal providing information on available property in the district
- Economic intelligence such as information on the local labour market and economic trends
- Canterbury 4 Grants, an on-line facility giving access to more than 400 available funding opportunities
- Training and skills advice
- Business advice and support

Dawn Hudd said: "The council is looking forward to working closely with Canterbury Christ Church University's Business School in developing the next generation of young entrepreneurs. We can offer plenty of support to start-up businesses to help them make Canterbury and east Kent their permanent base."
Miriam Sarrafan, Senior Lecturer at the Business School had this to say: "Entrepreneurship students at the Business School of Canterbury Christ Church University have gained significantly from the input of Dawn Hudd and the Local Economy Team at Canterbury City Council who have been generous in sharing their significant local expertise, knowledge and insight. By opening up opportunities to students in today's tough jobs market through the entrepreneurship course, we are all hopeful that some will go on to establish their own successful businesses in future, contributing to the economic development of this area and benefiting the whole community."
