Business for Breakfast Kent - Drumming up Success
Business for Breakfast Kent was launched in Canterbury at the end of February in 2007 and offers local businessmen and women an effective, and in most cases, complementary networking forum for people who are serious about growing their business.
In keeping with the ethos of replacing competition with collaboration and continuous development, Canterbury's Business for Breakfast Forum recently met up with two additional local groups and invited guests for the first, of a planned, bi-annual fusion meeting.
The concept was to offer our members the opportunity to promote their services and network with a wider group of Kent based businesses, in addition to providing a fun and enjoyable development opportunity - the result was our Drumming up Success event.
Following an extended breakfast meeting, with guest speaker Dean Martin of Beyond Excellence, the members relocated themselves rather inquisitively to an array of seating around a collection of African Djembes, Gankogui bells, Shekeres and various other percussion instruments
Following a warn-up and introduction by tutors Nick Davies (Director of Music in the Community) from Canterbury's Simon Langton Girls Grammar School and associate Jonathan Russell, our members where soon getting into the rhythm of developing harmonious synergy - Jonathan explaining that optimisation within a network forum stems from listening and synchronising efforts to produce a masterpiece of focused networking with melodious results.
It is however recognised that this takes time to develop and you do need to get to "know, like and instinctively trust" your fellow members before the results are productive. This being audibly evident, on the day, from the initial maverick attempts and unsoundly performances.
The development of the team through coaching and installing a sense of rhythm and reliance on each other very quickly produced remarkable results.
The result of the event was an enjoyable morning where our members and guests alike gained a sense of developing relationships where you can build instinctive trust and knowledge of each other to produce extraordinary results through synergy.
Business for Breakfast Kent is run full-time by Stephen Russell and Mary Johnston, both who have a background in small to medium sized (SME) business and related project development. In the space of a few short months the network has grown beyond all expectations. As of the beginning of August 2007 the network now consists of four Forums based in Canterbury, Thanet, Ashford and Chatham, with others planned in the near future.
It has already proven to be highly successful for the business who have joined with many evidencing tangible levels of new business through to potential contracts worth in excess of £1million.
