GRANTS AVAILABLE TO RURAL BUSINESSES

Rural Economy Grant (REG)

Canterbury City Council is urging rural businesses from the district to take advantage of a new £60 million national scheme to boost the rural economy.

The Rural Economy Grant (REG) provides grants to enable a significant ‘game-changing', transformational performance in farm, forestry, tourism, agri-food businesses and micro businesses in rural areas in England.  The £60 million REG has been established in response to the findings of Defra's Rural Economy Growth Review (launched in November 2011), which through consultation and an in-depth analysis of a broad range of research, identified large grants (of £25,000 up to circa £1 million) are needed in key business sectors to unlock significant rural economic growth potential.

The scheme is targeted at companies operating in the areas of farm competitiveness, agri-food, tourism, forestry, and micro enterprises such as digital media technology and small, high value manufacturing. Successful applicants will receive up to 40 per cent of the cost of projects.

This announcement of this grant is one of the Governments steps to  unlock the economic potential of our rural areas. It is further proof of how this Government is investing in our rural economy, supporting our countryside and driving growth in rural businesses.  Applications for grants are now being accepted and further information is available at:  http://rdpenetwork.defra.gov.uk/funding-sources/rural-economy-grant
