During his career, he has held both financial and general management responsibilities. In consequence he has expertise in finance, systems, strategy, leadership and public policy matters. He has strong negotiating, networking and leadership skills.

In retirement, he combines his leisure interests with activities that seek to develop the industrial base in Kent. He is chairman of Sittingbourne Enterprise Hub Ltd and of Kent Science Resource Centre, is involved with a number of small companies in Kent either as an advisor (he has been recognised as a mentor by the Merlin Project operated by Finance South East) or as a director and is active with three Kent based charities.
