Business Pledge's
Please join with other businesses in committing your business or organisation to take positive action on "matters environmental" in an effort to become more sustainable.
Choose one or more of the following tasks ( to be completed within the next two months) and email your preferred pledge(s) or pledge number(s) together with your company name to: nicholas.churchill@canterbury.gov.uk
1 Getting the Environment on the Agenda
- i) To identify and appoint an “Environment Champion “ within our business in the next 30 days
- ii) To include the environment within the agendas of our regular business meetings to help identify improvements and to plan solutions
2 Energy and Water
- i) To “adopt a hippo” in our toilets (to reduce water) within one month. To ensure taps are turned off properly and plumbing checked regularly for leaks etc.
- ii) To create a plan to reduce electricity consumption and evaluate renewable power within the same timescale
3 Recycling and Waste
- i) To only buy recyclable office paper from now on
- ii) To identify with staff, three wasteful areas of our business within the next three weeks and make a plan to improve waste management and recycling practices
4 Customers and Community
- i) To make it easier for customers to make ‘green’ choices and to reduce their carbon footprint (e.g. introduce ‘carbon labelling’)
5 Supply Chain
- i) To create a Green Supplier shortlist in the next three months
- ii) To partner two non-C4B suppliers to create a Green Business Network
6 Lunch!
- i) To use or sell 2 Fairtrade products (e.g. tea, coffee) within one month
- ii) To support a different local café or restaurant each month
7 Transport
- To review our transport policy and look to:
- • reduce company cars
- • increase use of renewable fuel
- • encourage management and staff to car share, to use public transport and to walk or cycle to work
8 Construction
- i) To ensure any building and refurbishment projects are energy and water efficient through use of sustainable materials
9 Cleaning
- i) To start using biodegradable cleaning materials
10 Go off Piste
