Canterbury Economic District Partnership
Friday 19th November, 8-11am,The Horsebridge Whitstable

Present: Michael Head, Penny Sharp, Tony Bartlett, Simon Sparrow, Phil Davies, Peter Hawkes, Nicholas Churchill, Peter Bunn, Fiona Beer, Kevin Bush, Jan Thornby, Eileen Hargreaves , Emma Janes.

  2. Notes of the last meeting
    Minutes agreed.

  3. Canterbury District Economic Profile
    Nicholas Churchill presented to the board an introduction to the draft Economic profile. Nick explained the main key points of the draft; a final version is to be produced next year. Nick asked the board to look through the draft and if they have any comments to let Nick have them by the 10th December.

  4. Canterbury District Business Week.
    Peter showed the board marketing material we will use to promote the Business Week, Pete also passed round to the board a timetable of the weeks events and Promotional Plan.

    Nick had a meeting with SEEDA the district is able to have an Enterprise Grant the Local Economy Team are hoping they will do a Seminar at the Canterbury Business fair so we can raise awareness.

    The C4B dinner and Seminar is to be held on the evening of Wednesday the 16th March at The University Of Kent at the Darwin Conference Suite, going to discuss more next C4B meeting.

  5. Business Survey Results
    Penny gave a summary to the board of the Business Survey results the board compared the results from 2002 and 2004 surveys.

  6. Update Business Ambassador
    Fiona gave a list to the board of all the business’s she has visited and al list of their issues arising.
    Fiona visited Andrew Davis from Natwest who has said that C4B are doing a fantastic job and he would like to know how he could help.

  7. C4B Website
    Fiona and Clive met with Simon Edridge to discuss the C4B website Fiona presented to the board what the website would like l
    Artful Business would like to thank C4B for their help and support for helping them to get started up.

  8. Board membership/Revised terms of reference
    Michael and Penny met up on Tuesday with Jonathan Watts, Ian Mazerolle, Paul Barrett, Amy Austin and we are pleased to welcome them as new board members, Malcombe Pollet with join the Sub groups.

  9. Matter Arising from Sub-Groups

    Update from Learning and Skills
    Jan has been given money from GOSE and after a selection process St Anselm will receive funds for Work experience Placements, the placements are due to start in a couple of weeks.

    Vocational Centre in Whitstable to be finished at the end of January

    The evening on the 2nd December is the launch for Orchard School for their Arts Bid, Kevin will be attending.

    Michael attend a meeting at the Annual Kent Partnership meeting and on the first 6 things to do is Education which C4B are working on.

    Kevin thanked the board for attending the Business breakfast at Barton Court.

    Quality of Life
    Kevin to arrange a meeting next year with Marie Royle, Kevin is hoping to launch the Community Chest in the Business Week.

    Business Watch inserts are going to be going out with Business Life and an article has gone out in Kent Business Kevin was invited to an Environment meeting to discuss the work that C4B do.

    Kevin is going to speak to the Planning Policy department at the Council to discuss the environment

  10. Chairmain’s Update
    Michael has already updated the board throughout the meeting.

  11. Any other Business
    The Beacon Council Bid was not successful.

    C4B Xmas card would like it to have the dates of Business week and the C4B Seminar and could everyone email Emma a list of contacts by end of November.

    Kevin spoke to the board regarding applications for Kent Business 2005, Kevin suggested putting C4B forward.
