1 Welcome to everyone.  
2 Introductions – Dawn met the rest of the Board.  
3 Minutes from the last meeting and matters arising. Next Stage –
  • Megan McGibben, Executive Director for KMEB, is to attend a future C4B meeting.
Successor Questionaire –
  • This was discussed by the Board, as collated by Ian Mazerolle. It was agreed that a MD or CX was needed, to support/ back Michael up. More active partners were needed within the group.
  • Michael is now an Executive Member of the East Kent Partnership.
  • CCC would give plenty of admin support to the board.
  • Improving education and skills project lead still to be arranged, it was felt that we needed someone from the education sector to undertake that role.
  • A thank you letter from Colin Carmichael, for sponsoring himself and Ian Brown, cycling Rheims to Canterbury, collecting for the Lady Mayoress's Charities.

4 Chairman's update
  • “Vision for Kent” Michael attended the meeting; it is now out for public consultation. Available online to view at www.kent.gov.uk/vision/contents/html
  • The South East Plan document is also out for consultation 5 th Sept to 17 th October, there are several dates locally for people to attend. A questionnaire can be found on www.kent.gov.uk/seplan
  • A Regional Economic Strategy Event was held to discuss Coastal Towns.
  • KCC is still supporting Little Barton Farm.
  • The East Kent Partnership have done a feasibility study for East Kent Natural Parks, the board to receive a copy each.
  • Locate in Kent –An Executive summary on Hotels has been produced, a copy to be given to the Board.
  • Concern was raised was on the amount of project groups that we now have, although when analysed these actually include the Money Box and C4B dinner/Business Week.
    More members are needed to get involved with the project groups.

5 ‘C4B The Way Forward' – Wednesday 28 th September, 6 – 8pm, Hall Place, Harbledown
  • Clive and Amy to give a presentation.
  • Tony Bartlett sends his apologies, he cannot attend the event, but will try to send a representative.

6 Discussion
  • Budget – C4B will now decide how the budget will be spent.
    £15,000 is allocated from the Council.
    Advertising in Kent Business has been reduced to a half page at£450 per month, so frees up some more money.
  • A2 Slips / Little Barton Farm – Eileen Hargreaves (Lead), Michael Head and George Wilson
    Michael met with KCC, CCC and the Highways Agency to discuss the A2 slips, there was very positive news on them, the focus needs to aimed at the Bridge slips to keep on lobbying.
  • Business Week / Dinner Dawn Hudd - (Lead)
    Business Week is planned for early April 2006 with a BusinesstoBusiness show in December to be held maybe at the University.
    Kent Business Advice Day early April 2006 – C4B to arrange to have a stand as part of our own business week to promote Canterbury.
    Action Plan from Dawn to be sent round to the Board Dinner – Costs need to be discussed. Tony Perry (Change Organisation) had offered to pay for some dinner costs.
  • Employment / Entrepreneurship – Tony Bartlett (Lead), Clive Relf, Fiona Beer.
    Tony gathering info to present to the board.
  • Improving Education & Skills – TBA (Lead), the board all agreed that we need someone with expertise/experience in this field to take on the project group, Phil spoke to the board, the East Kent Partnership are working closely with us.
    St Anselm's school – work experience/ work accreditation. Herne Bay High – Chasing for DBD's.
  • Marketing Amy - Austin (Lead), Johnathan Watts, Kevin Bush.
    Everyone met to discuss issues – Priority is to raise the profile with local businesses.
    Amy to carry on producing her newsletter – once a month for board members, and associate members. Need quotes/info from board members and associates.
    Work on the web site – Amy and Jonathan to meet Simon Edgridge Associates.
  • Money Box – Kevin Bush (Lead)

  • Olympics 2012 – Paul Barrett (Lead)
    Bryan Raine, the ED Manager from KCC is the guest speaker, at the event. It is a great opportunity for the district to get involved. Over 100 people are to attend the event, email the final attendee list to the Board.
  • Ambassador Update
  • Concentrating on visiting businesses and signing up associates, any paperwork CCC will do.

7 Any other Business
  • Education Business Partnership – KCC have won the tender (Kent Works) it comprises of Learning Skills, KCC and Individual Learning Co. The handover period is the next three months. All funding is to be transferred, some money will be available from Kent Works but very limited.
    Kent Works – Keen to use Placements at Work booklets. Agreed to licence them for use. Need to get inhouse to make amendments and print 5,000 with local printer – cost to be passed on to Kent Works.

  • Broad Oak Reservoir – Board are keen to find out more, invite Mid Kent Water to attend a future board meeting.
  • C4B Window stickers – finally arrived and given out to the board with C4B Folders.
  • Chamber Laison Meetings
    All three areas need representation, at the meeting.
  • Whitstable one way system – Info needed – keep the board informed.
