To better fulfil its aims for promoting business and strengthening the local economy, C4B needs strong communication and dialogue with local businesses, organisations and business people.

We achieve this through our Associates, who support the aims of our organisation and add their voice to the C4B's 'Voice for Business'. A strong number of Associates enables C4B to gather opinion and views about the development of business within the district, and then put these views forward to the Local and County Councils and other influential partners. As an Associate your views will be canvassed from time to time, but you will also be encouraged to voice independently any issues you may wish to put forward.

Regular contact by email will keep you informed of both C4B and other business events in the district, as well as keeping you updated with news of C4B's project group work.

Mission Statement

To promote the interests and prosperity of all the people of Canterbury, Whitstable and Herne Bay through enhanced business opportunity and activity, in partnership with Local and County Government, Educational institutions and business interests.

Through links with schools and educational establishments, help the area to develop young people who are able to provide for the needs of business and identify areas where business can help education.

To make Canterbury, Whitstable and Herne Bay a location of choice for business.

How

Provide an apolitical voice to local government at City and County level promoting the benefits of business in Canterbury, Whitstable and Herne Bay.

Bring increased prosperity to the area to help improve the quality of life and standard of living for the inhabitants - present and future.

Provide a forum in which business interests can be raised and assessed with a view to benefiting the whole area and its inhabitants.

Make contact with educational establishments and facilitate ongoing communication between business and local education providers from secondary schools to the University.

Work to raise finance or funding for projects that benefit both business and the inhabitants of the area.

Raising important issues with local government with regard to transport and infrastructure and helping local government to achieve common objectives.

Principles

C4B acts in the interest of the greater community, not any one business or group of business interests. The Board of C4B decides how the partnership will pursue its aims. The twenty Board members consist of:

Large and small business representatives

Business support organisations

Voluntary organisations

Educational and training partners

Council officers

There are four main areas of interest for the Board:

Infrastructure investment

Strong local economy

Investment in learning and skills

Investment in quality of life

The Board is apolitical and decisions are taken on a democratic majority of vote with Michael Head, Chairman of the C4B Board having the casting vote.  All of the Board Members donate their time for free.

To become an 'Associate member' of C4B, you must:

Alongside agreeing with the broad aims of C4B and to receive all C4B communications, you must commit to support C4B in all or some of the following ways:

Attend occasional events which either promote C4B or that C4B has decided to support.

Advise the C4B board of your views either when requested or if appropriate unsolicited.

Support the principle that it is to the benefit of the whole community to have a successful, prosperous and growing business community in Canterbury, Whitstable and Herne Bay.

Agree to respond to C4B requests for information and views, and if appropriate be prepared to make those views public.

Try to support local educational institutions by providing work related opportunities.
