ID Notes Action
1 Welcome
Mike welcomed the board to the school, and spoke to the board about the history of the school. The Chaucer is a specialist school in ICT and also has links with the community. Mike went through the facilities that Chaucer can offer for ICT and asked the board to bear the school in mind when arranging meetings and events.
 
2 Michael welcomed Dawn Hudd the new Local Economy Manager to the board.  
3 Minutes from the last meeting and matters arising.
The Meeting noted that on page 3 item 9 ‘Joint venture from Business Link Kent and Technology Enterprise Kent, it is an Enterprise Gateway Business Advice Service. Should read ‘ this is not a joint venture it is a SEEDA funded partnership through the East Kent Partnership.
Item 7 paragraph 1, Fiona Beer was present at the meeting to discuss the marketing Plan.

4 Chairman's update
A2 Slips are an ongoing project.
Jan introduced Ollie from ICT team at Herne Bay High School who is working with Jan interviewing business people. Ollie would like to interview Michael and Dawn.
Local Area Agreement Michael explained that this link could help C4B in achieving A2 Slips and the Science Park. It was agreed that some one should come and explain this agreement to the board.
Michael and Dawn leave the meeting to be interview by Ollie.
 
5 ‘C4B Moving Forward'
The sub groups met last week and drafted the presentation. Amy gave out handed outs of her presentation then gave her presentation to the board.
 
6 Discussion
The board thanked Amy for her presentation, Michael then went round the table asking the board for their comments The main comments were –
  • More project based
  • More business based projects.
  • To take on projects that take off and are achievable
  • We need to look at the follow on impacts of projects.
  • Re focus on priories and objectives
  • The use of the C4B logo
  • Marketing
  • Lobbying, entrepreneurship.
  • To be clear on the vision and out comes.
  • Success list, and project list to go onto website.
  • Agree sub groups.
  • To look at the future Chair.
Dawn handed out C4B's key projects to date.
After discussion it was agreed that sub groups would now be called project Groups. Listed below the projects to be addressed have been identified and leads have been agreed, but members will be asked which group they would like to join at the next meeting –
  • A2 Slips / Little Barton Farm – Eileen Hargreaves (Lead), Michael Head and George Wilson.
  • Business Week / Dinner - Dawn Hudd (Lead)
  • Employment / Entrepreneurship – TBA (Lead), Tony Bartlett.
  • Improving Education & Skills Jan - Thornby (lead)
  • Marketing Amy - Austin (Lead)
  • Money Box – Kevin Bush (Lead)
  • Olympics 2012 - TBA (lead)
Next stage
Ian Brown to suggested at his meeting next week that Megan
McGibben from KMEB come down and give a presentation to the board.
Amy to amend presentation and send out to board members that were not present at meeting.
Fiona to summarize frequently asked questions from businesses and bring to next board meeting.
Next year the board will need to elect a new chair. Ian Mazerolle to drive this forward and bring to next board meeting.

7 Any other Business
The board agreed to host an Olympic event on the 15 September in the evening 6 till 8 pm, to invite businesses, schools and organisations.
Michael has spoken to Brian Raine (KCC) and he is happy to attend the event.
Ian Mazerolle to look at attendance at the board meetings.
Emma to send an email out to the members absent regarding next the meeting to check which date is better 26 August or the 02 September.
Nicholas Churchill will be sending an email to all members regarding the New Online Business Directory, as he would like comments back from the board.
Dawn spoke to the board regarding David Le Bretton who is conducting a survey on behalf of the LSC and KLP on adult education and training.
He is looking for businesses in East Kent to participate in a 1hour interview. David can be contacted on – 01227 721551 (H) or 01227 876852 (W).
The deadline for Kent Business is Wednesday 20 July.
It was suggested that a ‘Thank you' card for C4B to be produced to thanks those that have let us host a meeting.
